About and privacy
Roomful Trivia is a free set of trivia games for families, classrooms and parties. One screen hosts the game; everyone answers on their own phone.
Family-friendly by design
Every question was written and checked to be suitable for children. Faith categories are written respectfully, describing what each tradition teaches in its own words, and hosts can turn any category on or off.
Player names and typed answers are checked against a list of blocked words, including common misspellings and look-alike letters. Emoji and links are not allowed. Room codes use only consonants, so they can never spell a word.
What we store
There are no accounts, email addresses or passwords for players. We store only what the game needs:
- The nickname you type, your answers and your score while a game is running. Rooms and their answers are deleted a few hours after the last move. While a game is running, the site owner can see the nicknames in it (so a name that slipped past the filter can be spotted), but not your answers.
- Final scores above zero, with the nickname and date, for the public high-score boards, unless you tick "Keep me off the high-score board" when you join. Changed your mind after the game? The final screen has a button to take your score off the board; it is deleted.
- If you rate a question with a thumbs up or down, that vote, tied to the game's room code but not to your name, so the site owner can improve or remove questions.
- Anything you choose to send with the feedback form. An email address is optional and is used only to reply to you. It is deleted from the site after 30 days. New messages, with the reply address if you gave one, go to the site owner in a daily email so they can write back.
- Short-lived counters of how many games and joins come from an internet address, to stop abuse. These are deleted after a day.
- Anonymous usage counts, so the site owner can see what people enjoy and fix what trips them up: which pages are viewed, the site that linked here, the kind of device and browser language, the country (from Cloudflare), which links to our sister site Roomful Games are clicked, and for each game the game type, number of players, length, options and how it ended. No names, addresses or cookies are used. To count each visitor once a day, a one-way code is made from the connection with a random key that is replaced every day; the codes are deleted the next day and can't be traced back to anyone. Browsers set to "Do Not Track" or Global Privacy Control are not counted.
Your phone remembers your nickname, current game, party colors, sound setting and whether it has visited before in its own browser storage so you can rejoin after a refresh. Apart from Google's ad code on the pages that show ads (see Ads below) and the videos once you press play, there are no third-party trackers or scripts. The site is delivered through Cloudflare, which sees visitors' internet addresses in order to block attacks.
The two videos on the home page and the How to play page, how to play Roomful Trivia and how to put your phone or laptop on your TV, are hosted on YouTube. Nothing is loaded from YouTube until you press play. Then the video plays in YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode, and YouTube (Google) handles it under its own privacy policy.
Please use a nickname rather than a full name, especially for children. If a name on the high-score board needs to come down, the site owner can hide or delete it; just use the feedback form.
Ads
To help keep the site free, the home page, the How to play page and the trivia question pages may show ads from Google AdSense. Ads never appear on the game screens: not on the TV, in the lobby, while a question is being answered, on the end-of-game screen or on the high scores.
- When ads are shown, Google's ad code runs in your browser on those pages. Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies or similar technology to deliver and measure ads, limit how often you see the same ad, and prevent fraud.
- We ask Google for non-personalized ads, which are chosen from the page and your general location, not from a profile of your interests. Sensitive categories such as gambling and dating are blocked.
- Visitors in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland are asked for consent first, and can change their choice at any time from the privacy link at the bottom of the consent message.
- You can turn off personalized advertising from Google for your account at Google's Ad Settings, and read how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
- The site does not share player names, answers or scores with Google or anyone else.
Follow along
New videos, trivia questions and updates go out on X (@roomgamenight) and YouTube (@RoomfulGames). They're the accounts of Roomful Games, for all our games, including Roomful Trivia. These are plain links: nothing from those sites loads on this one.
Support the site
Roomful Trivia is free, and it's built and run by one person in their spare time. If it made a family evening, a party or a class more fun, you can leave a tip on Ko-fi. Tips help pay for hosting and new questions. They are completely optional and never unlock anything; every game stays free for everyone.
The tip jar is a plain link. Nothing from Ko-fi runs on this site, and Ko-fi, not us, handles the payment and your payment details under its own privacy policy.
Terms
Using the site means you accept the Terms of Use: free to play, provided as is, and please don't abuse it.
